Alison Dunhill's Segments paintings are a further exploration of her New Mexico series of mountain and desert landscapes.

"When I look closely at the New Mexico paintings, I see within their detail new patterns and shapes, some abstract, some almost mini-landscapes: segments that are independent of the naturalistic scale and reference points of the originals."

By selecting sections of the original paintings, then segments of the sections, Alison Dunhill has created new works that challenge the division between representational and abstract. Her bold use of colour and texture generate a powerful visual impact.

The Segments series was first exhibited in October 2003 at Gallery Forty-Seven in London.
